Michelangelo’s “Lamentation of Christ” is the only work that he signed. Copies of this work can be seen in many Catholic churches in the world.

Pieta's figure is very interesting. The Italian master was able to subtly portray the lifeless Jesus in the arms of the Mother of God. Here the Madonna is very young, who mourn, because the person closest to her died.

The sculptor managed to very subtly connect the two figures - Jesus and the Mother of God. Combining them into one compositional whole was very difficult. And Michelangelo succeeded flawlessly.

In this figure, Michelangelo contrasts the opposites: male and female, living and nonliving. So, the voltage component is successfully introduced into the composition.

Madonna's clothes in this sculpture have very large and breaking folds. This technique enhances the drama of the plot. The folds symbolize the physical and mental strength of the Mother of God. At the same time, the strength and power of the folds contrasts with the softness of Madonna's facial features. Michelangelo perfectly portrayed the theme of mother's grief, which mourns the death of her son. The depth of disclosure of such a topic is amazing: it was done in the 15th century.

Michelangelo portrayed the Young Mother of God. By this he violated theological canons, but such a technique made it possible to show the spiritual purity of the Madonna. The image of the Blessed Virgin is spiritualized, noble, restrained. Such feelings slightly set off maternal grief, giving it the features of enlightenment. And in the allotted left hand, we guess bewilderment.

This work of Michelangelo is one of the most thoughtful and finished. Few sculptures have so much expressiveness, emotionality and substance. The master was able to excellently cope with all the compositional difficulties, while restraintly using emotions.
